SHREVEPORT, La (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport Police made their first litter arrest using hidden cameras Thursday.

The City of Shreveport hopes people will think before dumping items in the city. Mayor Tom Arceneaux said some people don’t want to pay a landfill fee to dispose of items, so they choose to dump them.

“We hope we can make examples of people who are engaging in this illegal activity,” Arceneaux said.

The cameras are hidden, their locations have not been disclosed, and the city wants it to stay that way.

The Community Oriented Policing Bureau (COPB) will monitor the cameras, investigate, and follow up on these crimes.

Two state codes cover litter in our city: Intentional littering and gross littering.  Intentional littering includes things like food containers, cigarette butts, bottles, and other small objects.  Gross littering includes engines, boats, tolls, building materials, furniture, appliances, and other large household or office items.
